Utell Hotels & Resorts acquired its name from our founder, Henry Utell, a key early figure in the travel industry.

It was in 1930, while working in New York, that he realised the need among those crossing the Atlantic for a knowledgeable agent to find and reserve accommodation, and provide reliable, advance confirmation of bookings.

Henry began his career as a journalist in Vienna working for the weekly Aufbau. In 1926, he started a travel section in the Berliner Kurier, making it one of the first papers to cover travel news in Europe. After immigrating to the United States, where he continued to write as a correspondent for several German and Austrian newspapers, it was this background of personal experience that helped the natural pioneer found his own travel company, Utell Hotels & Resorts.

Back then, Henry posted letters to European hotels on behalf of his clients. Over the years the company has been keen to increase the range of our partners, and take advantage of the opportunities new technologies offer to improve the service we provide our clients.

For example, in 1994 the very first online hotel reservation was made using technology created by Utell Hotels & Resorts' owner, Pegasus Solutions, based in Dallas. Pegasus was named as one of the 500 fastest growing US companies, and in 2006 was acclaimed 'World's Leading Travel Distribution Service' at the World Travel Awards.

Today, Utell Hotels & Resorts operates in every part of the world, and provides speedy and reliable reservations for clients online, via travel agents or over the telephone. Throughout all its many changes – which Henry could hardly have predicted but would surely have been keen to embrace – Utell Hotels & Resorts has remained true to its early pioneering model of experience and reliability.
